Bart Mixon Is Guest Speaker at MUD Event In Burbank

On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Bart Mixon was a Guest Speaker at MUD’s Professional Development event at the Holiday Inn in Burbank. Deverill Weekes interviewed Bart and the students, alumni, and staff. All present enjoyed his words of wisdom.

Born in Houston, Texas, Bart Mixon began his career in special make-up effects working on local independent productions. Within a few years, he was finding work as a lab tech and an on set make-up artist on projects like A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and Robocop.

In 1987, Bart made the big move to Los Angeles. Soon after, he was supervising the special make-up and creature effects for projects such as Fright Night Part 2 and Stephen King’s It. Bart has served as the shop foreman for such notable effects houses as Rick Baker’s Cinovation Studios, the Chiodo Brothers Productions, and Fantasy II Film FX’s in house make-up lab, Make-up FX Unlimited.

Bart co-founded Mixon and Ellis FX, the make-up effects studio, in 1994. For four years, ME-FX created make-ups and creatures for such projects as Men In Black, Peter Benchley’s The Beast, Fargo, and Rushmore.

In recent years, Bart has served as a project coordinator and/or make-up artist on The Grinch, Planet of the Apes, Men in Black II, The Ring and The Ring Two, Hellboy, and X-Men 3.

Bart has been a member of Make-up Artists Local 706 since 1994, and is a SAG puppeteer.
